In September, 1969, a 15-year-old boy named Fred Jones was exploring the local countryside when he discovered a treasure chest. The heavy wood construction was filled with gold coins and jewels. For weeks after the discovery, he could not find anyone who would share in his bounty for fear of being accused of theft. One day, however, a group of campers showed up and begged to be allowed to split the riches. Denied them twice, Fred Jones warned them none too politely that if they were going to leave without giving anything back it would only make things worse for them in the long run as they wouldn't be able to explain how their valuables disappeared one day later. They were desperate enough to believe him, and in the end all but the obnoxious young man were satisfied with their share. They returned to camp with newfound wealth, and celebrated with two of their friends who had also found chests of gold coins. One of them was Fred Jones. The other was his younger brother, Wilfred. When they awoke the next morning, however, they discovered that Wilfred had disappeared without a trace. A search party was soon formed under Fred's guidance to find him. They did not find him until several hours later after Wilfred had led them on a wild goose chase through the forest for several hours. He skirted the camp, reached his own chest of gold coins, and fled. Wilfred had managed to stash the treasure chest in plain sight yet still managed to get away undetected. The silver lining was that Fred had learned that Wilfred had not only found the treasure chest but was depending on him to share it with them. This would give Fred an edge when he confronted his brother in order to get his half of the money. Fred came face-to-face with Wilfred in order to retrieve his portion of the wealth, but Wilfred instead grabbed a gun and demanded that they both count their shares down. The two were locked in a stalemate when their father, who was supposed to be on a camping trip with his family, arrived. Fred's father was none too pleased with the two boys' behavior. He was charged with being responsible for Fred being so disrespectful to his father in front of everyone. After all of the treasure had been divided among the five travelers, Fred's father told them he didn't want any part of them or their families ever again. He packed up his rucksack and left. The five campers who had helped search for Wilfred moved on to other locations and forgot about this latest run-in between the Jones and Jones families. After the incident at the Jones family, Fred decided that all he needed to do was to spend time with Wilfred and get him into trouble so that no one would ever want to associate with him again. Three years passed and Fred was still trying to get under Wilfred's skin. One night Fred had a nightmare where he was attacked by a figure holding a knife and Wilfred had cut his arm with this knife.
