Babumoshai Bandookbaaz is a 2017 Indian crime drama film written and directed by Kushan Nandy. The film is a coming-of-age story of a juvenile delinquent Babu Moshai who becomes an encounter specialist in the Mumbai Police Force. It features Nawazuddin Siddiqui as Babu Moshai, Pankaj Tripathi as Inspector Amar Jadhav, Denzil Smith as Lalloo Yadav, among others. The movie will be screened at the 68th Berlin International Film Festival 2017 in its "Berlinale Special". In India, it was released on 10 March 2017 to critical acclaims from major reviewers and commercial success at the box office. ScoopWhoop called it one of the "must watch" movies of 2017. "Aurora" described the film as "...new age cinema presenting the stark reality in an entertaining manner." The Times of India gave it three-and-a-half out of five, describing it as "...a story that reflects the madness that resides in our heart of hearts". Behindwoods rated the movie 2.75/5 calling it a "mild entertainer with no extraordinary moments to cherish". The movie was released at the box office on 10 March 2017 and started with mixed to positive reviews from critics and audience alike. The film collected overall Nett Gross of around 4 Crore in its first week, which is better than the expected figures. The film went 2nd at box office on its second day and entered the first position by collecting around 3 Crore nett on 8 March 2017, after receiving very positive response from Critics and Audience alike. The opening day collection of Babumoshai Bandookbaaz was 7.5 Crore on first day. The film grossed 9.20 crore in first weekend of its release. It showed a good jump in 2nd week as it collected around 5 crore on Friday, Saturday and Sunday taking its total collection to 34 crore. It further collected more than 45 crore in the second week, taking its 10 days total collection to almost 70 crore. It was remade into Marathi as "Sheetal" (2017) and into Tamil as "Vantha Rajavathaan Varuven" (2018). The film received several award nominations and wins, including:- Arjun Bali Award for Best Debut Actor (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actor (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), Zee Cine Award for Best Screenplay (Kushan Nandy), Zee Cine Award for Best Supporting Actor (Pankaj Tripathi) and Filmfare Critics Award for Best Supporting Actor (Pankaj Tripathi).
